The large S-shaped structure is located in Hangzhou, China.

A gigantic apartment block in China is considered the world's largest and most densely populated building.

If you thought your residential building in New York was crowded, think again, as this single structure reportedly accommodates an astonishing 20,000 people.

The building in question is the Regent International Apartment Complex, located in Qianjiang Century City, the central business district of Hangzhou.

There are an impressive 5,000 apartments in the S-shaped complex, which stands 675 feet tall and offers 260,000 square meters of space.

The apartments vary in size, according to Parametric Architecture, with options ranging from studios to larger apartments with multiple rooms.

But the enormous building isn't just residential; there's space for living, working, and socializing, meaning theoretically, residents need never leave the complex.

You might be curious about the impressive amenities this building offers to keep residents indoors, and it largely depends on which side of the building you reside.

Regardless of the side, you will find facilities similar to those in your local town.

This includes a vast food court, barber shops, nail salons, medium-sized supermarkets, swimming pools, and even internet cafes.

The building has previously gained viral popularity on social media due to TikTok coverage of its amenities.

While the interior is indeed impressive, the sheer size of the building is what has captured many people's attention online.

In a TikTok video uploaded by the user @fatheristheone, the vastness of the building is highlighted with stunning drone footage.

Originally designed by Alicia Loo, the chief designer of the world’s second seven-star hotel, the Singapore Sands Hotel, the building was meant to be a six-star hotel.

However, it has since flourished as a structure featuring thousands of apartments and accommodating even more residents.

The luxurious apartments are favored by students, graduates, and young professionals.

If you're wondering about the cost of living here, small apartments without windows (yes, that's correct) typically rent for around 1,500 RMB per month ($210), according to local news sources.

In contrast, some of the larger units with balconies are available for 4,000 RMB per month ($570), which is significantly cheaper than renting in New York.

According to Apartments.com, the average monthly rent in New York City exceeds $4,000.
