More information has come to light about a baby who was found dead in a closet.

Last month, 21-year-old Laken Snelling was taken into custody and charged with corpse abuse, evidence tampering, and concealing the birth of an infant.

In a statement, police reported: "On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Park Avenue for an unresponsive infant. Upon arrival, they found an infant who was pronounced dead at the scene."

"On August 31, 2025, Laken Snelling was arrested and charged with Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant. She is presently detained at the Fayette County Detention Center. Ms. Snelling is the mother of the infant."

Snelling, a student at the University of Kentucky studying Interdisciplinary Disability Studies, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and is scheduled to return to court on September 26.

After being released on a $100,000 bond by a Fayette District Court judge on September 2, the cheerleader is currently residing at her parents' home. As the investigation progresses, more details about the distressing incident have emerged, including the location where the infant's body was discovered.

A report from the Lexington Police Department indicates they received a 911 call on August 27, leading them to find the baby in a closet. The cause of death and the baby's gestational age have yet to be determined, but the coroner's office has confirmed the infant was a boy.

According to the report, as reported by PEOPLE: "Complainant just found a dead baby in a closet. It is cold to the touch."

The report had the caller's name and number removed.

It further states that Snelling was not present when police, EMTs, and the fire department arrived at the property.

Snelling was found approximately five minutes away from the house and was taken to police headquarters for a medical check. The college student was arrested a few days later.

Although Snelling is identified as the mother, her ex-boyfriend reportedly underwent a paternity test to determine if he was the father of the deceased child.

Izaiah Hall is reported to have dated Snelling before her relationship with Jordon Connor.

The tests have not yet determined the baby's father.
