In Washington D.C., two former presidents attended Jimmy Carter's funeral.

A lip reader has disclosed what Barack Obama and Donald Trump exchanged at Jimmy Carter's funeral.

The former presidents were among the many notable figures who attended Carter's funeral (January 9) in Washington D.C.

Carter passed away at the age of 100 on December 29. He was the longest-living president in US history and is survived by his children Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The former president, who stepped down in 1981, lived so long that two of the eulogies were penned by individuals who passed away before him — his vice president Walter Mondale and his White House predecessor Gerald Ford.

Carter was interred at Washington National Cathedral. All of his living successors attended, with President Joe Biden, the first sitting senator to support his 1976 presidential campaign, delivering a eulogy.

Former president Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump, political adversaries who have mocked each other for years, sat beside each other and conversed for several minutes — even sharing a laugh.

Now, a lip reader has disclosed what the two were apparently discussing.

In one part of their extended conversation, the lip reader - who spoke with Sky News - revealed that Obama mentioned something about making it 'soon', with Trump responding: "I haven't got a clue."

"Huge amounts of money," Obama responded. "And people will always leave their cabin."

In another instance, Obama was seen laughing at Trump and said: "Can you imagine?"

"We are here for a challenging show," the President-elect added.

Trump also asked his predecessor in the White House: "Would you allow me to start it?"

Obama responded, "Yes, I would. Yes. We'll see what happens."

Trump continued to talk about seeking public opinion on a certain topic, but it remains unclear what that was.

Apart from the discussion between Obama and Trump, Carter's family honored the 100-year-old.

"He built houses for those in need," said Joshua Carter, a grandson who remembered how Carter frequently taught Sunday school in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, after his presidency.

"He eradicated diseases in neglected regions. He pursued peace globally, wherever opportunities arose. He had a deep affection for people."

Jason Carter, another grandson, commended his grandfather and his wife Rosalynn, who passed away in 2023.

He humorously remarked on the couple’s thriftiness, such as washing and reusing Ziploc bags, and the former president’s difficulties with his mobile phone.

"They were small-town individuals who always remembered their roots, regardless of what transpired in their lives."
