Numerous Apps and Websites Are Currently Unavailable
Numerous users are experiencing major issues with various websites and apps due to a significant internet outage.
The internet problems began early on October 20, with many users reporting that their most dependable apps and websites are not functioning correctly.
Down detector, a service that monitors user complaints for web services, has indicated a sudden and widespread disruption.
This includes Amazon Web Services, Amazon, Canva, Duolingo, Snapchat, Ring, and many others.
Other sites and apps reported to have issues on Downdetector include: Roblox, Clash Royale, Life360, My Fitness Pal, Xero, Amazon Music, Prime Video, Clash of Clans, Fortnite, Wordle, Coinbase, HMRC, Vodafone, PlayStation, and Pokémon Go.
Although these apps and companies are not typically linked, the internet issues appear to be related to their connection with Amazon Web Services.
The company provides infrastructure to these services and companies, ensuring much of the modern internet operates smoothly.
The issues started around 8 am in the UK, or midnight Pacific time, as the company reported ‘increased error rates’ and delays with ‘multiple AWS services’, according to its service status page.
The company states that the issues are impacting Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, both of which allow companies to rent storage and computing resources to run their services.
Companies have begun releasing individual statements to inform users of the ongoing issue.
Fortnite announced on Twitter that they are currently experiencing problems.
In a post, they stated: “An outage affecting several services on the internet is also impacting Fortnite log-ins. We're investigating this now, and will update you when we have more details.”
More updates to come.
