The Marriage of Donald and Melania Trump Spans Two Decades

A former aide to Melania Trump asserts that the First Lady will never leave Donald Trump for a particular reason.

Donald and Melania first met in 1998, but it wasn't until 2005 that they married in a lavish ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida. They had their son Barron a year later, although becoming First Lady likely wasn't part of Melania's initial intentions when she started her relationship with the future president.

Reflecting on their first meeting, Trump, Melania told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016: "He wanted my number, but he was with a date, so of course I didn’t give it to him. I said, ‘I am not giving you my number; you give me yours, and I will call you.’ I wanted to see what kind of number he would give me — if it was a business number, ‘What is this? I’m not doing business with you.'"

Although Trump is now serving his second term as president, the 79-year-old has faced numerous controversies over the years.

The Republican was convicted in May 2024 on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who alleged a sexual encounter with Trump.

The $130,000 'hush money' payments were intended to enhance Trump's electoral chances during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Stephanie Grisham, Melania's former aide, spoke to CNN last year to shed light on the First Lady's perspective while her husband faced criminal charges.

Grisham told the outlet: "She knew what she was getting into. She may have been concerned about how it affected his future image, but she wasn’t going anywhere."

Trump received an unconditional discharge, meaning he remained a convicted felon but would not serve time in prison.

During the trial, Michael Cohen, the president's former lawyer, stated that Trump was unconcerned about Melania's reaction to the news of an alleged affair, as he was more focused on being elected as POTUS.

"How long do you think I'll be on the market for? Not long," Cohen reported Trump said, though the president has denied this.

Grisham shared her thoughts on CNN in 2024, saying: "I think that comment [from Trump] to Cohen sounded completely true. She's content, she has a very good life. She's not leaving, that's been proven. So I absolutely believe he said something like that to Michael Cohen."
