Tammy Carvey from Michigan Talks About Her Winnings
A Michigan woman scored a lottery jackpot after getting an AI chatbot to pick her numbers, and it worked out big time.
Even though the AI chatbot wasn't actually predicting the winning numbers, Tammy Carvey jokingly asked ChatGPT to come up with her winning Powerball numbers.
The 45-year-old from Wyandotte decided to give it a shot when the jackpot hit a massive $1.787 billion.
"I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers, and those are the numbers I played," Carvey told KARE 11 after she got her prize.
The numbers - 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and Powerball 17 - matched four white balls and the red Powerball, scoring Carvey a cool $50,000. But since she picked the Power Play option, her winnings got a boost.
Her prize doubled to a sweet $100,000.
Carvey admitted she only plays the lottery when the jackpot's in the nine digits.
"I only play Powerball when the jackpot is high, and since it was over $1 billion, I bought a ticket," she said.
The Wayne County local didn't realize how much she'd won at first, forgetting about the Power Play feature she added when buying the ticket.
"Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won," she said. "It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000! My husband and I were in total disbelief."
Carvey plans to use her AI-assisted winnings smartly by paying off her house and saving the rest.
Even though it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, Michigan Lottery officials made it clear that her win was just luck.
"The results of all Lottery drawings are random and cannot be predicted by utilizing artificial intelligence or other number-generating tools," they stated.
Carvey isn't alone; Virginian Carrie Edwards also hit it big after asking ChatGPT for winning numbers, snagging $50,000 that became $150,000 thanks to her own Power Play multiplier.
The historic September jackpot was split between two players who nailed the exact combination, and while AI didn't 'predict' the outcome, it seems some folks like letting tech do the picking.
